Guest Post... Best Diaper Bag Ever!

Grandma also made "Katie" a new diaper bag! She picked the fabric all by herself and I (I mean "Katie") LOVED it! It has pockets inside for diapers/wipes, cell phone, and two other small pockets. There is an outside pocket for a bottle or Mom's waterbottle. Love it. If that wasn't enough, there is a matching CHANGING PAD!  Grandma can probably do a better job with the specifics.  We love our new bag!  It will double as a bag/purse even after we exit the "baby" stage!

Guest Post.... Baby Dress

The dress Grandma made for baby girl was great... but as all babies do, she GREW! So we chose more fabric and Grandma made yet another dress, this time in a larger size! Can't wait for warmer weather!

Guest Post... New Carrier Cover!

A friend of mine is getting ready to have a baby... her FOURTH! So exciting! So I asked my mom to make her a Carseat Cover like mine! Here it is!

Guest Post... High Chair/Shopping Cart Cover

Grandma made Katie some pretty special gifts for Christmas!  One of my FAVORITES is the high chair/shopping cart cover.  The one we used for the boys was blue & broken (after years of use, one of the buckles just broke!).  It was well-loved and we wanted one for our new little one!  Enter Grandma & her amazing sewing skills!

The polka dot print is the "outside", she sits in where the circles are

Another pic.  You can see the "pocket" and the strap where toys can be attached!

First time using our cover!  Unfortunately the restaurant was a bit dark...

She sat up very well in her chair + cover!

Thread Bowls

My newest sewing project is thread bowls. They are eye catching and can be used in various ways. When I finished my first one, I put my fresh fruit in it on the kitchen counter. These are made from material and are reversible and I was told they are washable but have not done that myself yet. If not in the machine, I know they can be hand washed. They start out as you see above with 2 squares of fabric, either the same on each side or 2 coordinating fabric, one on each side of a shaping interfacing and a pattern. After some pressing and sewing, here is the finished product.

The Mizzou ones would be great for snacks while watching the game. I'm trying some Christmas ones thinking they would make nice decorations with colored ball ornaments and possibly a candle but not to light!!!!

Holiday Bowls
I also made a smaller bowl and a leaf bowl that would easily be a candy dish but I made mine to hold my business cards my daughter had made up for me at the craft show in Moberly, Missouri Nov 11-12.

I have also been making some pot holders in Christmas and fall fabric All of this is to get ready for the craft show.
Holiday Potholders

I had a price poster made for my craft show!

While visiting my daughter in Texas, I purchased pieces needed to put together a sewing work place. You can see my unfinished Mizzou pot holders there.  Thanks to my son-in-law for putting the drawer section together and my husband for finishing it when I got it home. Everything  has a place!!!!
Potholders... a work in progress!
New desk

Better get back to sewing. If you are in the area, hope to see you at the Moberly Craft & Gift Show at the MACC activity center Nov 11-12.

Pillowcase Dress (minus the pillowcase!)

Finished product!

Happy Baby!
So my daughter enjoys the idea of making dresses for her new baby.  She found a simple pillowcase dress pattern that uses 1 yard of fabric instead of a pillow case (http://www.aroomsomewhere.net/2007/07/pillowcase-dress-tutorial.html).  We measured the length of this dress to be a bit long on baby girl, as we are hoping it will fit for a LONG time!

Baby Bloomers!

Personalized baby bloomers!  So cute!  Putting my new sewing machine that is capable of embroidery to good use!

Baby Girl Dress

Dress + matching bloomers

Grandma + Granddaughter
My daughter wanted me to make a simple dress and bloomer set for her daughter.  I found the perfect pattern - the dress sweeps up in the back to reveal the bloomers!  We decided on a "medium" size for this 3 month old.  Unfortunately, the bloomers were a bit large, the dress a bit smaller than anticipated!  She still looks adorable & my daughter loves the print!  We've already purchased additional fabric to make more sets for her!

New baby carrier covers

Know any wild Mizzou fans that are expecting a baby? This carrier cover would be the perfect gift. The other one is an update of my first one that I made my granddaughter, Katie. I used a different alternate fabric with the popular main color. Still working on baby things as I have new orders. Will soon be taking a break from sewing to watch some tennis tournaments. Be back soon.

Baby items

These are a few of the bibs and burp cloths I am working on. Some will be backed with terry cloth and others will be reversible with an alternate color on the back side with batting between and then quilted. I have several groupings cut out and will enjoy trying different ways of putting them together. As a farmer's wife I also have canning duties so I will be taking some time from sewing to can the wonderful vegetables that have produced well even in this very hot summer.

T-shirt Quilts

Ever wonder what to do with all those T-shirts you bought to support your kids or teams and feel too old to wear them in public any more and they are still in good shape? I have decided to try a T-shirt quilt. I had cut them out and stabilized them some time ago and have spent most of my sewing time lately "framing" each one. I have 27 of various sizes ready to pin in place on a sheet until I get the look I want and then start putting them together in a quilt. However I will put this on hold again as I have some requests for baby items and will have a table displaying my wares at the Randolph County Craft and Gift Show November 11 & 12. I will be doing some more sewing to have a good representation at the show.

Kitchen linen

Here I added pot holders made wth fabric of various foods. I used insulated batting and machine quilted these. Again makes good gifts. Ever go to a bridal shower and wish you could update your kitchen? We all need updated kitchen linen.

Casserole covers

I mentioned these before but thought I'd add a picture of one. I use them frequently for carry-in-dinners. They are made with 2 different cotton fabrics and batting between and on this one I hand quilted them together. It is fun making gifts for friends.

Modern Baby Quilt

I have a new granddaughter and I knew my daugher was not interested in pink, lavender and ruffles so I put together several different bright colors and the pattern was pretty easy to follow and it turned out better than I expected. Plan to embroider her name and add it on the back when I am able to visit again early fall.

New clutch purses

I have been working on changng the origional pattern, adding pockets inside, making them slightly smaller and adding a loop and button to keep the purse closed when lying down. I will carry it this weekend and see how it works out.

New baby carrier covers

In choosing material for these covers I find the lightest weight cotton I can so it can "breathe" and isn't too hot for the baby.

My first farm project - new throw pillows!

When I first moved to the farm, my beautiful new leather couch needed a bit of an accent.  Thus began my first sewing project on the farm - new throw pillows!  I love the way they look in contrast with the dark leather!

MIZZOU!

Here is a glimpse at my most recent project: an MU Rag Quilt.  I love the way this turned out!  What better way to keep warm this winter than bundled up in a quilt featuring your favorite sports team?

My sewing bag

Some days I go from one sewing group in the morning to another in the afternoon.  What's a girl to do with all her quilting/embroidering/sewing supplies?  I created a sewing bag especially to hold all my traveling treasures!  This could also be used as a purse.

Love those Flower Prints!

A view from the back
Is baby sleeping?  Are you looking for a way to say "Don't bug me"?  My daughter saw a baby carrier with a cover while she was pregnant and thought that it would be the perfect baby gift item!  We found a great pattern online that using two coordinating fabrics.  In her words, it has been her favorite new accessory with baby #3.  She is frequently stopped and asked about this cover!  Baby snoozes away without being bothered by people or the sun!
